Sublime

Hello cigar fans! I made it back safely. Prague is a beautiful city with an abundance of history and culture to offer. Living primarily off of goulash and espresso, I spent my week exploring the many museums, concert halls and bistros that line the Vltava River. I saw a former concentration camp in Terezín, went to Plzen to tour the oldest brewery in the Czech Republic, Pilsner Urquell, and heard an Organ so old Mozart himself once played the very same instrument. The food, while fairly simple, was right up my alley. It seemed that every restaurant served almost exclusively slow-cooked game and potato or bread dumplings. I ate nothing but duck, deer and pig for 7 days straight. As much fun as I had in the Czech Republic, eventually it was time to come back. I missed my home in Oklahoma City, my dog, and my friends and family here at the Cigar Box. So after 24 hours of traveling to get home, here I am!

Every day when I first get to work I do a walkthrough of the humidor. I walk from shelf to shelf making sure the cigars are arranged from left to right and that there aren’t any empty boxes. This helps to me to see what’s cigars have been coming in and out of the humidor since I was last there. As I walked into the humidor last Thursday I immediately noticed a new shelf had been installed and upon this shelf were four brand new boxes. The cigars are a light brown with a slight reddish tint featuring a simple white band labeled “Sublime”. Jaromirski & Co.’s Sublime began in 2004 as a house blend for a shop in the Little Havana district of Miami. Over time they accrued such a big a following they moved production from Miami to the A.J. Fernandez Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. In 2015 the robusto extra vitola received the 25th spot on Cigar Aficionados top 25 and a 93 rating. That’s a long way for a house blend to come in just 11 years. It’s easy to tell why this cigar is such a hit. The construction is superb with tight, almost invisible seams. The wrapper is an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado-Oscuro (it’s a mouthful, I know) with a Honduran Corojo binder and Nicaraguan Criollo filler. Complexity is abundant right from the start on this cigar. Upon first light you are hit with strong notes of cedar and cinnamon. As the cigar opens up it takes on floral tones. On the last third the floral notes linger while a sweet creaminess slowly takes over. I did have a few minor burn issues with this cigar, but nothing a quick touchup couldn’t remedy. Overall I was presently surprised at the complexity and quality of this cigar considering its moderate price-point. This is a solid medium bodied cigar with rich flavors that could be enjoyed by any smoker.
